Fruit bats watching
The fruit bat is one of the largest bats in the world. It is nocturnal and feeds mainly on ripe fruit such as mangoes and bananas, and nectar. It eats a lot of fruit, but it is tolerated because it is useful for pollination.
Fruit bats can be observed at dusk, when they emerge from their nests in large numbers and fly to their feeding grounds. They nest in trees, often near water. The nests can be huge. The departure of the bats in the evening often seems endless! It is also an incredibly noisy event.
